Comparison
Alzo vs Hevy: the coach or the community?
Hevy calls itself the #1 workout tracker, and it is a fair benchmark for any new app. Alzo is a much smaller app that does one thing Hevy’s plain log does not: it decides, from your own sets, when to add weight and by how much. This report compares the two on the criteria that matter to a lifter, with every Hevy claim taken from Hevy’s own pages on September 5, 2026.
How do Alzo and Hevy compare on the facts?
Prices are US App Store list prices as published by each developer, verified September 5, 2026; regional prices and promotions differ. Alzo prices are the App Store Connect list prices for 1.0.

How does each app handle progression?
This is the axis the two apps were built around, so it deserves more than a table cell.
Hevy shows previous values while you log and draws charts afterwards. Weight suggestions exist, but only inside Hevy Trainer: a Pro feature that generates a whole program (exercises, rep ranges, rests, starting weights) and applies “automatic weight progression based on performance”. Hevy’s workout plan generator page puts it plainly: “You must hit the upper end of the rep range with a specific weight on all prescribed sets for Trainer to increase it.” If you train from your own routine rather than a Trainer program, Hevy leaves the decision to you.
Alzo runs the coach on any plan, including one you built by hand. The rule is 2-for-2 from NSCA practice: rep target in every set, two sessions in a row. The free version tells you when that has happened; Pro adds the exact new weight, snapped to the plates you own (+2.5 kg barbell, +5 kg squats and deadlifts, +1.25 kg isolation, dumbbells by your increments) and a one-tap “Apply” that edits the plan for you. Below the rep range Alzo eases the load without asking; after a stall it schedules a deload and ramp-up. Progression is paced across the week so not every lift goes up on the same day.
When should you choose Hevy?
- You want a community: a feed, friends, likes, shared routines. Alzo has none of that.
- You train on Android too, or plan at a desk in the web app.
- You want a big library: 400+ exercises, most with animations, versus Alzo’s 206 with video.
- You are happy to have a program generated for you and follow it (Hevy Trainer, Pro).
- Price sensitivity: Hevy Pro is $23.99 a year against Alzo Pro’s $39.99, and Hevy’s free tier already logs without limits.
When should you choose Alzo?
- You run your own plan and want the app, not a spreadsheet, to say when to add 2.5 kg.
- You want no account and no ads: Alzo never asks you to sign up and ships no trackers.
- You train with the phone in the bag: full Watch app, plus a voice that reads the next set, weight and target in English or Polish.
- You want an honest free tier: unlimited routines, full history, Watch, voice and export are free; only the coach’s numbers, all-time charts and reports are paid.
- You value a lifetime price: $89.99 once, or 21 days of full Pro first without a card.
Where Alzo falls short
- New app (2026): a short track record and a smaller community than any app on this page.
- iPhone and Apple Watch only. No Android, no web version, no iPad-specific layout.
- No social feed, no following friends, no coach-client platform.
- 206 exercises: smaller than Hevy’s 400+ and far smaller than Alpha Progression’s 795. Custom exercises cover the gap, but the videos exist only for the built-in 206.
- Voice guidance in English and Polish only; the other five interface languages get on-screen cues.
- The Watch app is a companion: it needs the iPhone app installed, even though the phone can stay in the locker during the workout.
What do the free versions actually include?
Both apps log without a cap on workouts. The caps sit elsewhere. Hevy’s free plan allows 4 routines, 7 custom exercises and 3 months of graph history; Pro lifts all three and adds Trainer. Alzo’s free version has no routine limit and no custom-exercise limit; charts show the current 12-week cycle, and the coach shows the full diagnosis but not the computed weight. If you never touch Pro, you keep a complete log, the Watch app, voice, records and a full-history Excel export in Alzo, and a complete log, social feed and CSV export in Hevy.
